Volunteers Required and New Suppliers

The Shop

At the recent AGM we were given a warning that the shorter opening hours and rising costs were impacting income to the extent The Shop could be in jeopardy of closing in 3 – 4 years.

The new committee have been working with Eddie Parsley, the shop manager, to recruit new and bring back former volunteers to increase opening hours, from mid October we were able to open 7-5 Monday to Friday and Saturday mornings.

We hope to be able to continue and even increase those hours if we can add to the pool of volunteers to cover shifts of one to two hours a week. If you can help by doing a regular slot or be available on an ad hoc basis please contact Eddie at The Shop or Peter Docwra on peter.docwra@btinternet.com or 07710013081.

The past couple of years have been difficult for retail in general. I am so proud that we were able to keep The Shop open during the lockdowns and to keep supplies available. Remember the queues round the carpark and the socially distanced camaraderie? We need your continued usage of this facility.

Moving forward the new committee is addressing the current problems: seeking additional volunteer support; progressing funding for expanding storage capacity and to give Eddie office space; and seeking additional financial support from the communities we serve to ensure the future security of such an important asset to our neighbourhoods. We welcome new local suppliers to add to the variety of our offering. Please speak to Eddie.

Call in and see the new ranges; buy from The Shop and keep this wonderful facility available.
